Hello! My name is Meg McCoy and I’m a Pittsburg native of five generations.
My ancestors, the Shaws, left the east coast for the Oklahoma Land Rush in 1889. Their wagon broke down by Cow Creek and they figured “Close enough,” so we’ve been in Pittsburg ever since.
I began as a musician at age 11 playing violin for weddings and the Southeast Kansas Symphony under the loving tutelage of Carol Cook and Kirt Duffy. Later on, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music studying cello at Pittsburg State University.
During my college years, I was heavily involved in theatre and music. I collaborated with my favorite mentor and theatre director Cynthia Allen as musical composer of three plays, one of which was the first theatrical performance in the Miller Theatre at the Bicknell Center for the Arts.
While I was in college, I played in the folk rock band Deadeye and got to spend time with my best friends playing rowdy music. Since then, I’ve been involved in several bands in Pittsburg over the years and perform nowadays with my vampire folk project Blood Moon Roses.
I work as a freelance artist, musician, and DJ. I also have a small print shop I operate from home called Fresh Prints. After being involved in performance in Pittsburg my whole life, I’m so excited for my role on the Pittsburg Arts Council!
